Lady split St. Francis 1-1

The University of Akron softball team advanced to 22-25 on the season with a 1-1 game split in a doubleheader against St. Francis.DSC_0055

In game one, the Zips downed St. Francis by a final score of 10-4. The Zips had a greater hitting efficiency, hitting 13-28 at bats with nine runs batted in (RBI). St. Francis hit 9-29 in the the game, finding only four runs and three RBI.

Sophomore outfielder Rachel Ratcliffe led the Lady Zips with three hits, three runs and five RBI in four at bats. Sophomore third baseman Lisa Lash also had an impressive game at bat, getting three hits and three RBI on three at bats.

After the strong showing in game one, the Zips took a step back in game two, falling to St. Francis by a final score of 6-2.

After splitting the competition with St. Francis, the Lady Zips advance to 22-26 on the season and are sitting at 7-11 in conference play. With their conference record, the Lady Zips are sitting at second to last in the Mid-American Conference East division.

Despite sitting at the bottom, the Zips have been making a run at the end of the season, going 4-1 in the past five games.

There are four remaining games in the season for the Zips, which include two doubleheaders against conference opponents.

Kent State University currently leads the MAC with a record of 13-5 and an overall record of 24-18.

Conference play wraps up this weekend as the Zips will be playing a doubleheader against conference opponent Central Michigan Friday afternoon, and the last two games of the season will be played agains Eastern Michigan on Saturday
and Sunday.

Each of the remaining games are home games that will be played at the Lee R. Jackson field on campus.

All games are free for students to attend with their Zip card.
