The men’s basketball team opens the regular season at home on Friday, Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. against The University of Maryland Baltimore County.

This will be the first meeting between the two teams. UMBC finished their 2013-2014 season with a record of 9-21. They will have Rodney Elliott, who returns as the leading scorer for the Retrievers.

Elliott averaged 15 points per game while leading in assists and was named American East Conference Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Year. Other players to pay attention to are Devarick Houston, Will Darley and Cody Joyce.

Demetrius “Tree” Treadwell hopes to continue the momentum began in Monday’s exhibition game, where he ended with a double-double including 10 points and 14 rebounds. The Zips presented themselves as a strong defensive team in this game, with 44 rebounds. Noah Robotham, Reggie McAdams and Jake Kretzer are the players to watch in the Zips debut.

As the MAC East favorite, the Zips will be an exciting team to follow, so head out to James A. Rhodes Arena on Friday and take part in all the action!
