With all this cold and snow heading towards Northeast Ohio, head to the JAR for some warmth and excitement as your Akron Zips prepare for battle against the visiting Bobcats of Ohio University, Saturday, Feb. 21 at 5 p.m.

This year has been exciting for both teams who occupy the top two spots in the MAC East. The second place Zips hope to snap the first place Bobcats’ 10 game winning streak. A loss would see Akron fall in the standings and be swept for the first time this season as they lost to OU in Athens last month.

In the first game, there were multiple runs by each team and, in the end, a tired Akron squad gave up a 60-72 win to Ohio. Leaders of the game for Akron were forward, Sina King, who had a game high of 27 points and six rebounds, as well as Anita Brown with 15 points and Hannah Plybon contributing 11. Ohios’ Quiera Lampkins led the Bobcats with 18 points, while Kiyanna Black had 15 points and game high of seven rebounds. In the end, the Zips hurt themselves with 21 turnovers throughout the game.

In the rematch look for the MAC player of the Week, King, to continue a stellar senior year. The other starters, Brown, Plybon, and Kerri McMahan will be holding down the home court and limit the Bobcats in the JAR.

Ohio will want to pounce on the Zips and take control of the game fast with their efficient scoring offense and their fast and hard hitting defense. For the season, the duo of Quiera Lampkins and Kiyanna Black has led the charge for the team as they lead several categories on their team statistics. They, along with Kelly Karlis and Kat Yelle, will look to take the East and a sweep of the Zips.

The JAR should be rocking out as the Zips take on the Bobcats to avoid being swept on their home court. Tip off starts at 5 p.m. and following the ending of the women’s game, stay in your seats for the men’s basketball game between Miami (Ohio) and Akron Zips after the women’s game.
