Saturday, March 28, The lady Zips softball played a double header series against the Huskies of Northern Illinois.

In both games the Huskies left as winners and increase their record to 15-13 while the lady Zips fall to below .500 at 12-13.

During the first game, the Huskies scored nine runs to Akron’s one while out hitting the Zips 8-4. Erin Seiler recorded the loss as a pitcher and is now 12-7 from the mound. Seiler had three strikeouts and five hits put into play by the Huskies. Freshman, Caitlin Gambone scored Akron’s lone run in the fourth inning but the score was too out of hand by then as NIU had seven runs on the score at that time.

In game two, the lady Zips fell short to the Huskies by a single run, with a score reading 9-8. Senior Kellie Roudabush gave the ladies their first run in the first inning and continued to lead NIU until the bottom of the third where NIU had an impressive six run inning taking the score to 8-4 in favor of the Huskies. The next scoring happened in the sixth inning with Akron scoring twice and again in the seventh as Akron tied the game at eight runs apiece. However, during the last inning NIU recorded the winning run.

Seiler was the pitcher again on the mound and had six strikeouts and one home run during this game.

March 31 the lady Zips will be having another double header and will also be Akron’s home opener of the season as they host the 18-8 Red Flashes of St. Francis (Pa.). Game one starts at 3 p.m. with game two starting minutes after the conclusion of the first game. Come out and support your Zips as they look to defend their home field.
