Women’s volleyball

The University of Akron women’s volleyball team concludes its regular season this weekend by hitting the road for a couple of Mid-American Conference battles.

The Zips (8-17, 2-10 MAC) travel to Kent State University on Friday, Nov. 6, to take on the Golden Flashes (15-9, 9-3).

Then on Saturday, the Zips make the trip to Athens, Ohio, to take on the Bobcats of Ohio University (20-5, 10-2).

Akron faced both teams earlier in the season at home, each resulting in 3-0 defeats for the Zips.

Rifle

The No. 14 Akron rifle team will battle No. 2 ranked University of Alaska on Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Robert A. Pinn shooting range at 8 a.m in Schrank Hall.

The top five sharpshooters from each respective squad will go head-to-head in the smallbore and air rifle events.

The Zips are led by Zachary Strohl, Connor O’Mara, Julia Hatch, and Caleb Lloyd. All four will compete in both events.

Tim Hopkins will be the fifth marksman in the smallbore event, and Joshua Kovach will be the fifth shooter for the air rifle.

The Zips and the Nanooks faced each other last year with Alaska coming out on top 4,699 to 4,633.
