The University of Akron has appointed Carl Wallace as its interim chief diversity officer, a press release announced yesterday, April 27.

UA’s chief diversity officer directs outreach programs for minority students and promotes cultural awareness on campus. Wallace, a pastor and community leader, will take the position that former Chief Diversity Officer Lee Gill held for eight years, who has just accepted a position at Clemson University.

Wallace was a senior pastor at the Trinity United Church of Christ between 2008-2015. Additionally, he served as executive officer for equal opportunity affairs for Cleveland Public Schools from 1985 to 1998.

Wallace’s appointment, after Board of Trustees’ approval, will begin May 2, 2016.
The University is conducting a national search for a permanent candidate for the position and expects to hire someone before the fall 2016 semester.
