Channel your inner kid with a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich and a side of Goldfish, but feel grown up with a full menu of wine and beer at The Lockview.

It sounds too good to be true, but I promise I’m being serious about these fancy grilled cheeses. They market themselves as a “Gourmet Grilled Cheese Restaurant & Bar.” The restaurant is located directly across from Lock 3 in downtown Akron. Street-side parking is available.

The Lockview has a full lunch and dinner menu and features 13 different grilled cheese sandwiches. I’m not talking about your average grilled cheese sandwiches – these sandwiches have different kinds of cheese, like provolone, pepper jack, and goat cheese, with toppings such as tomato slices, pepperoni, jalapenos, portobello mushrooms, bacon, roasted red peppers, and even grilled apples.

To go with your gourmet grilled cheese, there are fries, sweet potato fries, and Goldfish crackers. The menu also includes soups, salads, burgers, appetizers, and more.

The Number Six, which is the most ordered grilled cheese sandwich, includes grilled apples, applewood smoked bacon, and cheddar cheese smooshed between two slices of country buttertop bread.

There is an extensive wine and beer menu which includes four Ohio craft beers. The Lockview has Happy Hour specials Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Get $1 off drafts and $5 on select cocktails. Also come on Wine Wednesdays for $10 off a bottle of wine.

The lights are dim at The Lockview, making for a great date night setting. Most of the ambient light in the restaurant comes from the bar and small candles on the tables. There’s a large chalkboard menu hanging above the bar. There are TV’s near the bar, which could be useful if you need to avoid conversation in case the date becomes awkward. During the summer, The Lockview also has an outdoor rooftop patio.
