Zips takes control of the MAC with win over the Huskies

Saturday, Nov. 1 the Zips traveled down to Northern Illinois University and won a challenging game 2-1. During the weekend, the Broncos lost an overtime match against Bowling Green State University, giving the Zips the first place standings in the MAC.
This week Akron will finish their regular season with a game at Penn State University and a home matchup against Buffalo Saturday, Nov. 8.

Penn state:
The Nittany Lions (11-4-1) come into this matchup ranked 25 in the nation and will be looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Northwestern University in double overtime. PSU has had 25 goals within the season which an averages for a goal and a half per match. This team has made about 15 shots per match as well and has a 43 percent chance of making each shot kicked into a shot on goal.
Players to watch:
Penn state has Connor Maloney who leads the team in goals with nine for the season. Maloney also has five winning goals and is ranked second on the squad with 38 shots and 22 shots on goals. Mikey Minutillo is their star attacker with six goals and leader on shots (53) and shots on goal (27). Playing goalie is Andrew Wolverton who has eight shutouts in the season and 48 saves while giving up 13 goals, the most in a single match came against The University of Maryland when the Lions were embarrassed 4-0.
Akron:
The Zips who are now 10-5-1 are looking to stay on top of the standings to host the MAC tournament in Akron and have won five out of their last six by a score of 14-3. For the season, UA has 28 goals, an average of 13 shots with a 45 percent chance of shooting a shot on goal with each shot.
Players to watch:
This week’s MAC’s Co-Player of the Week, Adam Najem has been on fire as of late, scoring four goals on the last two games including a hat trick against Cleveland State. Najem for the season has 10 goals, 34 shots and 20 shots on goal. Sepe is another Zip to watch for with three goals along with Jake Fenalson who has saved 62 balls from scoring and six shutouts in the season. Saad Abdul-Salaam, Sam Gainford and Stuart Holthusen finish up Akron’s top players to watch as each has had contributed to the success this team has had throughout this season.
