The University of Akron swimming and diving team swept both Ball State University and the University of Toledo last Friday evening at the Ocasek Natatorium in the first home dual meet of the season.

The Zips drubbed Ball State by a score of 221-78 and defeated Toledo with a score of 180-119. At the end of the night, Akron earned a total of 12 first-place finishes to go along with six second-place and third-place finishes.

Akron started the night in grand fashion by having its two 200 Medley Relay teams claim the top spots. Erin Seiler, Hannah Raspopovich, Luka Szynal, and Susan Franz topped all teams with a time of 1:43.76.

Right behind them were Laura Savariau, Paloma Munoz, Madison Myers, and Ragen Engel, who finished in 1:44.25.

Akron also captured the top two spots of the 100 backstroke. Szynal led the way with a time of 55.79 for a first place finish and Savariau was close behind for second with a time of 56.02.

Engel swam the 100 butterfly in 56.07, which was good for first place. Franz rounded out the top three by posting a 58.06.

Myers had a good night by placing first in the 50 freestyle (23.85) and the 500 freestyle (5:04.56) to go with her second place finish in the 200 Medley relay and a first place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:30.65).

In the diving portion of the dual, Akron dominated and claimed the top three scores in the one-meter dive and the top two in the three-meter dive. Alice Hottensmith placed first in the one-meter (289.40) and in the three-meter (303.35). Paige Kelkenberg took second in each dive with a 268 (one-meter) and a 280.10 (three-meter).
