USG and LGBTU meet

Written by: Heather Beyer and Beau Brown

In response to a protest held in the Student Union by the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Union (LGBTU), Undergraduate Student Govenment (USG) president Mary Beth Clemons and vice president Justin Orashan attended Tuesday night’s LGBTU meeting in hopes of uniting both organizations.

“It was not a tense meeting at all,” LGBTU president Chris Kuhn said. “It was very productive. We are all ready to repair the damage that has happened.”

Orashan said that the two organizations have become incredibly close throughout this process, and that USG hopes to build an even stronger relationship with LGBTU.

Kacie Herron, the director of campus life for USG and a former officer of LGBTU, was present at the meeting Tuesday night to speak as a liaison between the two organizations.

According to Herron, USG does great work, and the actions of one senator does not represent USG as a whole.

Senator Nagy was not present at the meeting, but LGBTU acknowledged his apology.

“I was very impressed with Senator Nagy to offer a sincere and heartfelt apology,” Kuhn said. “All of us concurred that it
was sincere.”
