Blast Shields Up! to play in Kent this Month

Finding new good music is always a plus, but finding local music that is above standard is like striking gold.

Local band Blast Shields Up! is a unique addition to the local indie scene with a sound that stands out in the music world.

When I first saw Blast Shields Up! I thought I was watching a national touring act.

The way they performed and presented themselves onstage was of the highest standard.

Their music was relaxing to listen to and had catchy melodies that were stuck in my head for days.

Along with catchy melodies, Blast Shields Up! has strong musical talent and the ability to write good lyrics.

They were also an incredible band to watch live.

Anyone that sees them live will be able to tell the members are pouring their hearts out on stage and giving it their all.

After their set I learned that Blast Shields Up! is actually a local band from the Medina/Akron area and each of it’s five members are seniors in high school.

Two of their members represent The University of Akron through post secondary.

The fact they are still in high school will blow you away considering their sound and talent.

Some of the band’s influences consist of Anathallo, Animal Collective, Fleet Foxes and Wolf Parade.

Blast Shields Up! took third place in the 2009 Tri-C High School Rock Off at the House of Blues.

They received $100 cash and four hours of recording time at Metrosync studios.

The recordings from the studio can be heard on Blast Shields Up!’s demo, and if you want a free demo to jam to on the way to class just email Blast Shields Up! at [email protected] for a free copy.

Another testament to their talent comes from an employee of the Grog Shop, John D.

While talking to John, he mentioned how he has seen hundreds of local acts, but Blast Shields Up! has really stuck out as one of the better bands with the potential to move forward in the music world

That is also the email to contact them to book a show.

As stated on their Myspace, www.myspace.com/blastshieldsup, they also play at parties if you are interested.

So, take advantage of the fact there are actually some good local bands in the area and check out Blast Shields Up!.

They frequently play shows in Cleveland and even have a show in Kent at The Vineyard on March 21st.
