How to deal with girlfriend's friends

“Ms. DoRight, My girlfriend’s best friends are the spawns of Satan. They are always harassing me and telling her evil things in an attempt to make my girlfriend break up with me. I’ve tried being polite. I’ve done nice things in an honest attempt to befriend them but they continue to attack me.”

Ms. DoRight,

My girlfriend’s best friends are the spawns of Satan. They are always harassing me and telling her evil things in an attempt to make my girlfriend break up with me.

I’ve tried being polite. I’ve done nice things in an honest attempt to befriend them but they continue to attack me. I’ve even bought them gifts for their birthdays, and I buy them alcohol all the time.

Their list of malicious acts includes spreading rumors that I cheated on my girlfriend and they send me nasty text messages. Is there an acceptable way for me to handle this?

Should I be just as rude and try to get revenge? Part of me wants to spread evil rumors about them.

Thank you,

Girls are mean

Mean girls,

Sometimes, people are stupid. Unfortunately for you, there are a lot of people in this world.

If you want, you could write your girlfriend’s friends off as stupid. You could even buy your girlfriend a bunch of different colored T-shirts with the words I’m with stupid. One for every friend.

This type of antic, though, does not make you any better than they are. In fact, this might be the worst possible way to handle your situation.

The plan could backfire if your girlfriend started to wear the I’m with stupid T-shirts around you.

When you say that you have, on occasion, bought her friends gifts, like alcohol, I wonder if this is the most sincere gift a person could purchase.

If you’re buying them cheap beer, they have reason to hate you come the morning after when they’re cleaning out their system. Try buying them something classy.

One thing you have to do is realize where they are coming from. When a woman starts dating, her friends feel left out. If her friends are single, they might be jealous.

If you have any single friends, you could try arranging a date between your friends and her friends.

Try to only do one at a time, even if you have friends who are into polygamy. I mean, don’t set up one guy with two women at once.

Sure, sounds nice for your friends, but your girlfriend’s friends will hate you forever.

The easiest thing to do is to keep your distance. Just ignore them. Or you could hiss at them and make the sign of the cross whenever you see them.
