Women’s basketball

The women’s basketball team will face the Canisius Golden Griffins on Saturday, and hopefully they’ll improve their record to an outstanding 6-1.

I’m so impressed with our women’s team and with how they’ve come out strong.

I hope their success continues and they keep on winning.

It’s great to have a team do so well, because I think it gives confidence to the coaches and players and helps them to compete and play well.

I am rooting for them. Hopefully they have a better season than last year.

Scott Caldwell

Men’s soccer player Scott Caldwell is now a finalist for the national 2012 Senior CLASS Award.

I really hope Caldwell gets this award, because I definitely think he has earned it.

He helped Akron to make it as far as they did in the NCAA tournament, and he’s been a huge asset to the team.

If there’s anyone that deserves this award, it’s Caldwell.

I wish him luck in winning this award, but most importantly I am proud of him for having had such an outstanding season that allowed him to be nominated.

Best of luck to you, Scott!

Professional football

The Browns, after coming off an amazing victory against the Steelers, head to Oakland on Sunday.

They may be without starting quarterback Brandon Weeden, who suffered a concussion during the final five minutes of the game against the Steelers.

If Weeden does indeed miss this game, backup quarterback Colt McCoy will be the starter.

I think McCoy is a decent quarterback, but of course I think Weeden should be the starter. Weeden can throw the ball better down the field, and he has more accuracy.

It won’t be easy for the Browns to get out of Oakland with a win, but we’ll see what happens.

On the other side of the spectrum, the Steelers will have maybe their toughest challenge of the season when they head to Baltimore, still unsure whether quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will start.

If Roethlisberger doesn’t play, the Steelers will lose, judging from the previous two games.

Best of luck to the women’s basketball team on Saturday.

Go and get that sixth victory!
