Rock Hall to induct nine

“This weekend, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will induct nine new artists, all whom have given something noteworthy to Rock and Roll. This weekend, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will induct nine new artists, all whom have given something noteworthy to Rock and Roll. There are performers, producers, songwriters and many other types of influence in the Hall of Fame. A board of 600 voters chooses the inductees each year and the only requirement to be considered for induction is that it has been as least 25 years since their first record was released.

This year’s inductees include five performers, one early influence category inductee and three sideman category inductees. The first performer is Jeff Beck, he recorded with The Yardbirds and Rolling Stone placed him in the top 100 guitarists of all time. The second was Little Anthony and The Imperials, they were a 1950s R&B band.

The third inductee is Metallica, everyone has heard about this Heavy Metal band from the 1980s. Run-D.M.C. is the fourth performer being inducted, they have received the title of greatest hip-hop group from both VH1 and MTV, and are given a lot of credit to taking hip-hop to mainstream. The final performer inductee is Bobby Womack, whose career began in the 1960’s as the lead singer in The Valentino’s.

Wanda Jackson is the early influence inductee. Jackson began her career in the 1950’s and was one of the first to mix country with rock. Bill Black is one of the sideman inductees. He is most notably known as Elvis Presley’s bass guitarist. The second sideman inductee is DJ Fonta, the drummer for Elvis Presley. Last but not least is Spooner Oldham. Oldham was a sideman to many artists including Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan and Neil Young.

The actual induction is on Saturday, April 4, but all this week are events leading up to it. On Wednesday, April 1 the exhibit From Asbury Park to The Promised Land: The Life and Music of Bruce Springsteen opens.

It has many of his guitars and even his 1960 Corvette. Thursday, April 2 is the Induction Week Concert. Doors open at 6 p.m. and previous inductees The O’Jays and Dave Mason of Traffic will be performing. Friday, April 3rd there is a special engagement with Little Anthony and The Imperials. Saturday is the day for all financially rundown college students. Admission to the HOF is free all day. While there, check out all the exhibits and get to see three live shows for free.

When it comes time for the induction ceremony, it will be broadcasted on a 12 foot screen at the main stage and it is also broadcasted live on Fuse. After the show there is a Run-D.M.C. tribute band playing. With all the stuff going on, and some of it being free, there is no reason anyone shouldn’t go and check out the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
