The guest composer at the Festival this year is David Gillingham, who is known world-wide for his great skills in composing for symphonic bands and percussion.

April 14 at 8 p.m., the UA Symphonic Band, University Band and Concert Band will perform a concert.

Their performance will showcase Gillingham’s music and will take place Guzzetta’s recital hall.

The UA’s School of Music will present their own peices by performing a concert on April 15 at 8 p.m.

This concert will contain both students and faculty of the School of Music and is named the The Composers Forum.

Along with the performances by our School of Music, The University of Akron Dance Company will be performing pieces they worked on all semester April 16 and 17.

The choreography will feature music by Bruno Louchouarn, who will also be present at the festival.

The piece that will feature Louchouarn’s music is choreographed by our own UA Professor Cydney Spohn and is called Images Surfacing.

This piece is also the product of the UADC and the Graduate Flute Quintet colaborating together.

Spohn and Louchouarn will be present at an audience discussion at 7:15 p.m. prior to each performance.

A question-and-answer forum between the two will also take place after the April 16 performance.

Along with Louchouarn and Spohn, the dance performances will feature pieces choreographed by Nick Carlisle, Tom Smith and MaryAnn Black.

The music accompanying the above pieces will include Jerry Goldsmith and Sergei Rachmaninof.

Most of the events that take place during the festival are free and open to both UA and non-UA students.

However, tickets for the UADC performance on April 16 and 17 are $6 for UA students, $10 for seniors, UA faculty and staff and $12 for general admission.
