You mentioned the idea of a scarlet letter and this is just it, only it goes further. Similar to the other colored plates, this achieves the same end by further separating someone from society in a public manner for their misdeeds. Keep in mind, this is after they have done prison time or have faced legal consequences.

For anyone that has committed a crime, it is hard for them to get back up and start a new life when legislation holds them down or singles them out. People already attempt to remove any criminal from neighborhoods, jobs, and other facets of life.

How do you expect these people to move on if they cannot hold a job or go to college? There are already systems in place that can be used for more private protection.

Of course something of this manner is going to get a lot of support. Taking a stance or giving a speech, being compassionate, gracious, or against what is wrong always benefits a politician’s agenda and career.

The problem is that they propose bills that effectively but covertly strip people of their rights or take such stances to manipulate opinions to gain support from the people in their favor.
