Rifle team defeats VMI

“The Zips rifle team visited the Virginia Military Institute on Saturday, Nov. 14. The Zips defeated the Keydets 4553-4196 at Kilbourne Hall. In the smallbore rifle event, the Zips took the top three spots. Sophomore Sarah Benjamin took first place for the Zips with a score of 567.”

The Zips rifle team visited the Virginia Military Institute on Saturday, Nov. 14. The Zips defeated the Keydets 4553-4196 at Kilbourne Hall.

In the smallbore rifle event, the Zips took the top three spots. Sophomore Sarah Benjamin took first place for the Zips with a score of 567. Sophomore Ryan Stein also shot 567 and placed second for the Zips. In third place came sophomore Zachary Szabo with a score of 565. The UA rifle team finished smallbore with a score of 2251.

In the air rifle event, the Zips took the top two spots. Sophomore Jenna Compton finished in first place with a score of 582. Juniors Rebecca Gerevics finished second with a score of 581. Stein finished in fourth for the Zips with a score of 571, and Benjamin finished in sixth with a score of 568. Akron finished air rifle with a score of 2302.

I am really excited about our progress in smallbore this week, we really needed some better smallbore scores and now we are going the right way, head coach Newt Engle said.

The Zips will play the final match of this semester on Saturday, Nov. 21 at home against The Ohio State University. The match is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m
