The School of Communication is launching a pilot program that will help students gain media skills. The Converged Media Immersion Program (CMIP) will launch in spring 2015.
“The program was developed by Dr. Elizabeth Graham through a grant by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation,” said Juan Contreras, UA Communications professor. “The program will allow students to gain media skills in just one semester, which has become a desirable trait in industries across the board.”
UA offers many classes that teach students important skills in the School of Communication, but now students will be able to acquire these abilities in one semester, rather than a series of courses spread out over several semesters.
The CMIP faculty includes UA professors Juan Contreras, Julie Cajigas, Val Pipps, Nancy Sinning, and Gabriel Giralt.
A luncheon was held on Friday Sept. 12 which gathered academic advisors, associate deans, department heads, and other members of the UA community to meet with the CMIP faculty to promote the program, according to Contreras.
