When entertainment and fun are mentioned, the Akron area probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind. But, if you dig deeper, you’ll find that Akron has a lot to offer.
Akron is home to many activities ranging from theatre to skate parks.
If theatre and musicals are an interest, check out the Carousel Dinner Theatre.
The Carousel Dinner Theatre, located at 1275 E. Waterloo Rd., offers patrons a fine meal and a fun show with one low ticket price around $45.
Since first opening in 1973, the theatre’s production value has increased, especially in the past few years. Thanks to this increase, actors of a higher caliber now want to work in the productions. The shows The Carousel puts on are as good as any other productions that may come through the area.
Currently they are presenting The Wizard of Oz. It will play from Aug. 27 to Nov. 1.
Another fantastic place is the Akron Art Museum.
The Akron Art Museum has been open since 1922. During this time many changes have occurred. The most recent is the new addition to the original building, which reopened in 2007.
The museum has many fine collections and is constantly showing new exhibits.
Ticket prices with a student ID are $5, but on the first Tuesday of the month the collections can be viewed for free.
It is located on One South High St., and is open Tuesday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
For those who would rather be doing something more adventurous than watching a show or viewing art, Akron has a free skate park.
Located at 1000 Derby Downs Rd., the Akron Skate Park offers three different areas for beginner, intermediate and advanced skateboarders.
This area includes a large bowl that sinks seven ft, a spine, rails and quarter pipes.
The park is free of charge and open all year round, weather permitting, from dawn to dusk.
While the next location isn’t in Akron, it’s fairly close and quite popular.
