By Dianna Lu, Arts & Life Writer

The University of Akron is searching for cast members for their upcoming play, “Blood Wedding.”

“Blood Wedding” is a tragedy by Federico Garcia Lorca, a Spanish poet, playwright, and theatre director. Fate, deception and nature are key elements in the play. The director is using the translation from American poet, playwright and columnist, Langston Hughes.

Actors, musicians, dancers, singers, poets, visual artists and video artists around campus are encouraged to audition for the many roles that are available in this production.

Auditions were held Monday, Dec. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 2, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Guzzetta Hall, Studio 194. For the audition, actors are expected to memorize approximately 4 lines of any poem by Garcia Lorca or Langston Hughes. They also encourage students who are auditioning to dress to move and participate in ensemble exercises.

Rehearsals begin Jan. 12, 2015 and then rehearsals that follow will take place on evening between Sunday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Opening night is Thursday, Feb. 26, and performance dates will be on Feb. 27 and 28, March 1 and 7 at 2 p.m., and March 5 through 7 at 7:30 p.m.

If you are cast in the play, one credit of production/performance lab is available.
