OCSS lets students compete in lighting contest

By Kamara Turner, Arts & Life Writer

Off-Campus Student Services (OCSS) will be hosting a Holiday Lights Competition for students living south of Exchange Street. The competition is available to all students living in the areas bounded by Exchange Street, Sherman Street and Route 8.

Students may register their apartment or house online by Monday, Dec. 1 and judging will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4. Although judging will only be for an hour long, OCSS suggests to start decorating earlier to create a festive atmosphere around the neighborhood.

Some leases do not allow lighting decorations or might have a cap on electricity usage. So if you rent a house or apartment, get permission from your landlord to hang up lights and decorations.

OCSS also encourages all participants to use LED lights to help reduce electricity usage and costs. The houses and apartments will be awarded in the following categories: zip pride, creativity and originality, visual appeal and overall impact.

Winners of the Holiday Lights Competition will be notified via email about the results and the prizes will be available for pickup at the OCSS office in room 152 in the Student Union through Friday, Dec. 19.

If students have any questions, emails can be directed to Todd Shaver via email at [email protected] or call 330-972-5500 for more information about the lighting competition.
