UA baseball, softball fall in MAC

The Zips Baseball team went on the road to play Eastern rival Ohio University in a series that could determine placement in the MAC championship.

However, the Zips lost the series in a season sweep as the Bobcats won 1-0, 1-6, and 3-5 during this past weekend action.

UA fell from a tie for first place to a tie for third place with the series winning OU rising to first place and Kent State following in second.

John Valek, Jt. Brubaker, and Jon Pusateri all collected a loss from the mound during the weekend as pitchers. At bat in the three games, the Zips had a batting average of .174 and were helped out with Kris Simonton’s performance throughout the weekend with his average of .389, a run and two RBIs.

Akron’s softball also had a hard weekend in the MAC as they lost two series to Miami (Oh) and Ball State University.

The Zips fell to fourth in the MAC East and during the weekend lost to Miami 1-0 and 3-2 while also losing 9-3 and 5-3 to BSU.

Erin Seiler pitched throughout the weekend and collected each loss for the Zips. At bat, the Zips had an average of .216 with a terrible .031 performance in the first game of the weekend match against Miami.

Both teams head out of conference for a mid week battle before heading back to MAC action to finish up their season.
