Men’s golf hosts Firestone Invitational

The University of Akron’s men’s golf team welcomes teams from all over as they host the Firestone Invitational at the North Course on the historic Firestone Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.

Teams from Ball State, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Francis Marion, Georgetown, Illinois State, Maryland, Ohio, Old Dominion, South Caroline-Aiken, Toledo, Valparaiso, Western Kentucky, William & Mary, and Xavier will compete in the two-day, 54 hole competition.

On Monday, rounds 1 and 2 will begin at 8:15 a.m. with a shotgun start. Tuesday the final round starts at 8:15 a.m. on the first and tenth tees.

Last year, South Carolina-Aiken led all teams with a final score of 876 (+12) while Xavier finished one stroke behind at 877 (+13). Akron finished eight strokes behind and in fifth place with 884 (+20).

Individually, the Zips’ Louis Birchall finished second overall by shooting a 213 (-3) over the three rounds and finished a stroke behind Xavier’s Jose Montano.
