Men’s Golf

On Tuesday, The University of Akron men’s golf team rebounded from a disappointing first round to climb four spots on the second day and finish sixth at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate hosted by West Virginia University.

Ryan Harris shot a second round of 71 (-1) to climb from 35th spot to finish in a tie for 10th with a two-round total of 148 (+4). Sharing tenth place with Harris was teammate J.B. Williams, who shot 73 and 75, and got an albatross—a double eagle—on one hole.

Also cracking the top 25 was Elliott Grayson, who fired a two-over 74, bringing his two-day total to 151 (+7), which was good for 23rd place.

George Baylis added a pair of 77s (+5) to finish 154 (+10), while senior Louis Birchall rounded out the team scoring with a 161 (+17) effort.

“I’m very proud of our effort this week,” head coach David Trainor said. “The Pete Dye Golf course was very hard. It was a grind and our guys handled it well. We still have work to do, but I am very pleased with our progress.”

Women’s Soccer

The University of Akron women’s soccer team hits the road this weekend for a pair of MAC matchups.

On Friday, the Zips take on Ball State in Muncie, Indiana, and then hop back on the bus to travel a bit south to do battle with the Red Hawks of Miami, Ohio on Sunday.

Akron (6-9-1, 3-4 MAC) looks to build on the come-from-behind victory over the University of Toledo last Sunday.

Women’s Volleyball

The women’s volleyball team looks to eliminate the seven match losing streak hanging over its head this weekend as it heads to Michigan for a pair of MAC battles.

First, on Friday, Akron (7-14, 1-7 MAC) plays the Chippewas of Central Michigan University; then on Saturday, the Eagles of Eastern Michigan University.

Victory will not be easy, as both Central and Eastern Michigan have won three of their last four contests within the MAC.

Women’s Tennis

The women’s tennis team is on the road in Ann Arbor, Michigan for the ITA Regional Championships. The first round matchups at the championship began at 8 a.m. Thursday morning and will continue until a winner is crowned on Tuesday.
