The University of Akron men’s soccer team closes the regular season portion of their schedule this Saturday at 7 p.m. by hosting Bowling Green State University.

The Zips (12-3-2, 3-0-1 MAC) are looking to looking to clinch another Mid-American Conference title, its 11th consecutive, with either a win or a tie in this match.

The winner of the conference regular season is then allowed to host the MAC tournament semi-finals and finals.

Bowling Green (8-8-1, 1-3) comes into the matchup looking for its first victory in the series since a home win back in 2002, a span of 17 straight losses.

Akron has posted a 47-2-2 record within the MAC since 2007 and leads the all-time series with Bowling Green 45-8 to go along with three ties since 1966.

The Zips leaders in goals are Richie Laryea (9), Adam Najem (8), Sam Gainford (7), and Victor Souto (5). Najem and Gainford are tied for the team lead in assists with six, while Stuart Holthusen and Laryea have four apiece.

In goal, Jake Fenlason has started all 17 games and carries a 1.3 goals against average with six shutouts on the year.

No. 5 Akron is coming off of a 4-2 home loss to the University of California, Los Angeles last Sunday. With their win, the Bruins jumped from 25th to 19th in the latest rankings.

As long as the Zips clinch the MAC, the semi-final matches would be held Friday, Nov. 13, and the championship game Sunday, Nov. 15.
