“I look at life like a glass half full of vodka, and then I drink it,” said Nicole Byer, a comedian for MTV’s Girl Code.

Nearly 1,000 students attended Girl Code Live in the Student Union Ballroom on Jan. 29. The ballroom still could not accommodate everyone; some attendees had to sit on the ground.

UA students were kept entertained with vulgar and outrageous humor from individual stand-up by current Girl Code cast members: Annie Lederman, Jamie Lee and Nicole Byer.

The night opened with Zips Programming Network and Residence Hall Programming Board urging attendees to tweet for a chance to meet the comedians after the show. Five lucky members were chosen, and each could bring one guest.

Lederman was the first to perform. Her jokes ranged from crude humor to tricking men into thinking she has breasts with the Victoria’s Secret Bombshell miraculous bra.

Lee made jokes about ‘meathead’ guys who only care about working out, bachelorette parties that are penis-themed, and creepy guys hitting on her at the bar.

Byer, a crowd favorite, told jokes about being single, overweight, online dating, and hitting on hot homeless men who live in L.A.

“[Girl Code] was really entertaining,” said freshman Audra Clapper. “I liked all of Nicole’s stories. Her black impressions were hilarious, or when she talked about a homeless guy totally whipping it out in front of her.”

Among the students interviewed about the event, none were expecting ZPN to bring the cast of Girl Code to UA.

ZPN President Logan Hershberger said the decision process for events stems from members of their executive board. “We thought bringing in Girl Code would be an excellent event for students to enjoy,” he said.

The event ended with a question and answer panel from the members of Girl Code. Questions were texted in before the show started and then asked at random.

One question made the cast contemplate the answer: “Why do you females always complain about guys but push away the good ones?”

Nicole answered it by saying that a guy had sent the question in, and he was basically asking why don’t girls like him.

Freshman Michael Paige enjoyed the show and thought it was better than he expected it to be. “I’ve never really seen the show but I’ve seen ‘Guy Code’. The questions were funny but there probably could have been better ones.”

Other questions included: “Bra or no bra?”, “What’s the definition of a penis?”, “What do you do when you’re with a guy who won’t DTR (define the relationship)?”, and “Do you have any awful college party stories?”

“I thought it was really cool they were here,” said senior Ashley Zisko. “Honestly, I know this is a college campus, but I was shocked that they didn’t hold back with their jokes — but I liked it.”

Freshman Noelle Warther had a different perspective on the night. “I was expecting more actual girl talk or things that pertained to our emotions a little more and not our sexuatlity. The Q & A was a bit much. I stopped listening to it and debated walking out,” she said.

Bringing the cast of Girl Code to UA was not a cheap event. According to Hershberger, it cost $20,000 for the three comedians.

Lederman has appeared on Chelsea Lately, @Midnight, and tours with comedians Marc Maron and Jim Norton.

Lee has appeared on comedy panel shows, such as @Midnight, Chelsea Lately, and Ridiculousness. Lee was named one of the “Top 18 Women You Should be Following on Twitter” by Huffington Post, and she was a semi-finalist on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing”.

Byer has appeared on NBC’s 30 Rock and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Byer has also created her own web series with Saturday Night Live’s Sasheer Zamata.
