The University of Akron’s Taking Care Week finished off with a Family Night event last Friday in the Student Recreation and Wellness (Rec) Center.

Zips Programming Network (ZPN) hosted the event in the Rec Center, allowing Zips and their families access to the rock wall, the swimming pool, and the basketball and volleyball courts. In addition, ZPN provided pizza, ice cream, cookie decorating, and a film.

“I am looking forward to playing basketball the most,” said Maximus, 13, when asked for what he was most excited at Family Night.

“I think that Akron should continue these family events,” said ZPN’s Emily Kruft while working the event’s sign-in tables. “There are usually one or two family events per semester that the University puts on and everyone seems to be enjoying it.”

This event, like others sponsored by the UA Center for Family Studies, was formed to focus on fulfilling the center’s mission of improving family growth, development, and quality of life. They also aim to stimulate better relationships between families.

“Honestly, I am looking forward to the kids getting tired so that they will go to bed easier,” said parent Anthony Brautigam.

UA’s Counseling and Testing Center offers many services and is free to UA students with a valid zip card. Its hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m, and its website can be accessed at uakron.edu/counseling.
