The University of Akron men’s soccer team (4-2-0) notched its second win in a row after beating fifth-ranked UC Santa Barbara on Monday night by a score of 2-0.

Not only are the Zips undefeated in their four home matches this season, but they also have yet to concede a goal while playing at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field in Akron.

On Monday, the Zips’ defense made for a pretty easy night for sophomore goalkeeper Ben Lundt, who only had to save one shot the entire match.

Senior captain Adam Najem found the back of the net for the second time this season, scoring a goal just under 11 minutes into the first half. Najem delivered a strike just inside the 18-yard box that would end up being the game winner for the Zips.

It wasn’t until the 82nd minute that redshirt sophomore Ezana Kahsay scored after cleaning up a shot that was deflected by the Gauchos goalkeeper. Teammate Jonathan Lewis would be rewarded with the assist on the goal, his third of the season.

The team will be back in action Friday, September 16 as they travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma, with the match beginning at 8 p.m.
