Helping students stay in touch with their families

The University of Akron held a family weekend on Saturday and Sunday to help students stay close to their families.

Family weekend was a great opportunity for any family member to visit the University and spend time with their loved ones —  and get to know the school’s campus.

A UA grandmother, Dorothy Hardesty, 87, said, “Oh, I had such a good time spending time with my granddaughter and this brought back a lot of memories from when I attended nursing school in Akron.”

The Zips Programming Network started the weekend off on Friday by hosting a free outdoor movie: Disney’s “Finding Dory.”

On Saturday morning, families checked in and received wristbands that let them participate in the days’ events. Families were able to get a professional family photo. Activities consisted of service projects, breakfasts, tours, rock wall climbing, bingo, cosmic bowling, and much more.

Visitors topped the weekend off Sunday morning at Rob’s Cafeteria for a pancake breakfast with Zippy and students.
