Women’s Soccer

The University of Akron women’s soccer team hosts the Toledo Rockets on Friday night at 7 p.m. as it looks to get back on track.

The Zips come into the game with a 3-6-1 record, and have a 0-3-1 record in their past four games. This is the third conference game of the season for Akron, after tying Miami and falling to Ball State this past weekend.

Despite their poor overall record, the Zips are 1-1 at home on the season, and haven’t played in front of the home crowd since Sunday, Sept. 11 in a loss to UC Riverside.

The Rockets come in at 6-4, and are 1-1 in their conference games. They last played on Sunday, beating the Ohio Bobcats 2-1.

The Zips will also play Sunday at home versus Bowling Green. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Women’s Swimming and Diving

The women’s swimming and diving team will travel to Bowling Green this Friday for the Tom Stubs Relays at 4 p.m. It is the first meet of the season after the Blue & Gold Intrasquad Meet on Friday, Sept. 23.

The squad returns sophomore Ragen Engel (Springfield, Ohio), who set the Zips’ records in the 100 free and 200 free. She was also a part of two first-place relay teams in the MAC Championships last season.

The team also brings in seven freshmen, including Kari Djonne, who hails all the way from Sandy Hook, Connecticut.

The Zips will have an exhibition meet on Oct. 8 before starting conference meets on Oct. 28 against Ball State.

Women’s Tennis

The University of Akron women’s tennis squad travels to Toledo this weekend to take part in the Wright State Invitational. The meet will start at 9 a.m. on Friday and will carry onto Saturday, when matches again start at 9 a.m.

Carli Knezevich looks to continue her excellent play after winning all six of her matches last week. Ariadna Blinova, Sophia Geier, Rita Pedroso, and Karalina Maksimava will also play hard in Dayton this weekend.

Women’s Volleyball

Coming off losses to Ohio University and Kent State this past weekend, the Akron Zips volleyball team will host its first home conference matches of the season this weekend.

First, the Zips will host Buffalo at home on Thursday at 7 p.m., and then they will play Toledo on Saturday at 5 p.m.

The Zips come in with a 5-9 record, and are 1-2 at home. The Buffalo Bulls are just 1-14, and are also coming off losses to Kent State and Ohio University this past weekend. Toledo has fared better, sporting an 8-6 record, and are coming off a victory over Central Michigan.

The Zips hope they can turn things around in their conference games, as they still need to play 14 more before closing out the regular season on Nov. 12 at Bowling Green.
