Comedian roasts students

The University of Akron welcomed American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, presenter, and comedy singer Chris D’elia at EJ Thomason Hall on Tuesday night.

D’elia is known for playing Alex Miller on the NBC sitcom Whitney, and for the role of Danny Burton on the sitcom Undateable, which is also on NBC. He appeared in a Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber, a series where a group of comedians humorously mock (or “roast”) a celebrity.

The event, free to all UA students, started at 8:30 p.m.

It was a great chance to get away from the busy college life and take a break from work, projects, exams, and homework.

D’elia had the crowd crying with laughter throughout the whole show. His comedy performance then turned into a roast that involved many in the audience. He chose random people, asked names, majors, and, of course, roasted every person he talked to.

The crowd really enjoyed how D’elia broke down the barrier between audience and performer.

D’elia continued to point out how many Akron T-shirts were in the audience; he also didn’t fail to notice that Captain America and Flash were sitting in the audience as well.

Seven audience members and one of their friends won backstage passes to meet D’eli himself. They were able to get pictures and autographs with D’elia after the show.

This event was put on by the Zips Programming Network and Residence Hall Programming Board. More ZPN and RHPB events can be found on Orgsync and The University of akron website.
