Women’s soccer drops pair to MAC teams

The University of Akron women’s soccer team dropped a pair of games over the weekend, dropping their record to 3-9-2 overall, while remaining winless (0-3-2) in Mid-American Conference play.

First, the Zips fell to Kent State on Thursday 4-0. The Golden Flashes continue to dominate, as they improved their record to 9-1 (5-0 MAC). Then, on Sunday, the Zips fell to Ohio University by a score of 4-1. The Bobcats picked up their first conference win of the season (1-5).

On Thursday Kent received goals from Donavan Capehart and Jenna Hellstrom, who each scored twice in the game. Hellstrom now has a phenomenal nine goals on the season.

Akron was outshot 10-3 on the night, as goalkeeper Annabelle Hegeman struggled against the heavy workload.

The Zips allowed ten shots on goal again on Sunday, and again Hegeman allowed four goals. Ohio picked up goals from four different players: Allie Curry, Megan Niebuhr, Sydney Leckie, and Bryce Hueber. Akron got its only goal from Chloe Allen, who leads the team with six goals scored.

The Zips get back to the pitch on Friday, Oct. 14, when they travel to Dekalb, Illinois to play the Northern Illinois University Huskies at 7 p.m.
