Starting for injured starter Thomas Woodson for the second straight game, Chapman played his best game as a Zip. Chapman started the game with a 70-yard touchdown run, the Zips’ longest run of the season. Overall, Chapman gained 254 yards with four total touchdowns through the air and on the ground.

Men’s Soccer

Akron’s star midfielder fired off a combined four shots in the Zips’ two games this past week, and he contributed one goal and two assists in the contests. His goal was on a penalty kick, and he is now 3-4 on penalty kicks on the season. Najem leads the Zips with five goals and 13 points on the season, while his two assists are good for second on the team.

Women’s Tennis

Echeverry was nearly perfect at the Cleveland State Viking Invitational over the weekend. The sophomore was 3-0 in her singles matches, beating opponents from Cleveland State, Duquesne, and West Virginia. Echeverry then nearly went undefeated in doubles play, as she and her partner Rita Pedroso won five out of six doubles matches over the weekend.

Women’s Golf

Nicholson was the champion at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational in Youngstown, Ohio, on Tuesday. The Zips also took first place as a team. Golfers from Oakland, Cleveland State, Youngstown State, St. Francis (PA), and Niagara University all participated in the invitational, but none were able to compete with Nicholson. Nicholson shot two-under-par on Monday to take the lead and kept first by shooting par in the second round on Tuesday. She was the only player at the invitational to shoot under par. Nicholson has finished in the top-five in each of the three invitationals this season.

Men’s Golf

The Zips’ senior golfer finished tied for second at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate earlier in the week in Bridgeport, West Virginia. Williams took second as he shot five-under-par, just one stroke behind leader Patrick Flavin of Miami University (Ohio). He shot eight strokes better than any of his Zips’ teammates, helping Akron to a third-place finish. Prior to the Mountaineer Intercollegiate, Williams hadn’t finished in the top-20 or finished under par.
