Z-TV to host special election night broadcast

By Grant Morgan, Editor-in-Chief

For the third election in a row, The University of Akron’s Emmy-nominated Z-TV broadcasting network will provide election night coverage next Tuesday, Nov. 8.

The three-hour special broadcasting session will start at 7 p.m. and, along with the presidential election, will cover some state and local district elections as well.

“It’s not only a great learning opportunity for the students who want to be in broadcasting,” said Juan Contreras, UA lecturer and general manager of Z-TV, “but it’s a great opportunity to be engaged as a media outlet, as not a lot of outlets are going to be providing coverage of this magnitude locally.”

Along with the main three-hour broadcast with hosts Kelly Stobie and Matthew Barnhart, Z-TV will have three crews going to report at different watch parties, including the Republican watch party in Cuyahoga County, one in UA’s Student Union Theatre, and one at Brubaker’s Pub in Akron. These crews will contact the studio live throughout the night.

The complete operation will require the work of 37 of Z-TV’s 52 members. It will be broadcast to the University’s cable system on channel 45-1, and on UA’s main website and YouTube channel.

Z-TV will be doing updates on social media, including on its Facebook page (ZTV Akron), Twitter page (@ZTVAkron), and on The University of Akron’s Snapchat account.
