Damn, it feels good to be a critic

“5. Still D.R.E. – Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg – 2001 This is one of the most underrated songs in hip hop. The lead single from Dr. Dre’s groundbreaking album 2001, Still D.R.E. is instantly recognizable because of the piano riff throughout the song. Dre has always been one of the best lyricists ever and it obviously helps to have Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg at your side.”

5. Still D.R.E. – Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg – 2001

This is one of the most underrated songs in hip hop. The lead single from Dr. Dre’s groundbreaking album 2001, Still D.R.E. is instantly recognizable because of the piano riff throughout the song. Dre has always been one of the best lyricists ever and it obviously helps to have Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg at your side. The song peaked at 93 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, but Still D.R.E. proves that commercial success isn’t necessary for a song to be timeless.

4. Dear Mama – Tupac Shakur – Me Against the World

Story continues below advertisement

This is the best song Tupac ever put out by far. Thugz Mansion and Changes were good, but this showed how deep he really was. For a guy who put a lot of emotion into most of his rhymes, this track easily outshines them all. Throughout the song, Shakur tells of his mother’s drug addiction and his drug dealing among other things. Definitely one of the best rappers of all-time

3. Notorious Thugs – Bone Thugs & Harmony and Notorious B.I.G. – E 1999 Eternal

Phenomenal song. The best collaboration in a hip hop song ever. Notorious B.I.G. speeds up his usual smooth delivery and the result is one of the best rap songs ever recorded. Bone Thugs & Harmony are the only group to duet with Tupac Shakur, Eazy-E and Notorious B.I.G., and this track out-performs Thug Love and For Tha Love of $ by far.

2. Rapper’s Delight – Sugarhill Gang – Rapper’s Delight

The Sugarhill Gang started it all. If it weren’t for Rapper’s Delight, there would be no LL Cool J or Run DMC and certainly no Eminem, Snoop Dogg or Kanye West. This one song started the phenomenon we know as hip hop music. Sadly, most hip hop fans these days have heard the lyrics from the song but only because the old woman from The Wedding Singer raps them on stage at the end of the movie. If you haven’t heard the song, listen to it now.

1. Big Poppa – Notorious B.I.G. – Ready to Die

Notorious B.I.G. is the greatest rapper to ever live and Big Poppa is the greatest rap song of all time. If you don’t believe me, look up the video of him on Youtube where he is freestyling in Brooklyn at age 17.

When you think of Biggie, you instantly think of this song. It is often regarded as one of the best from the ’90s, but it’s better than that. There is no other song that was instrumental to his success. Juicy was the first single released from the album but Big Poppa was his first #1. Love him or hate him, you’d have a hard time arguing the face that Big Poppa is the greatest rap song recorded.
