Senior wide receiver Jabari Arthur was named Mid-American Conference football Player of the Week Monday.

He’s a warrior, head coach J.D. Brookhar t said of Arthur. He’s our go-to guy, without question.

Brookhart proved his point in the the Zips game against Western Michigan Saturday. On first and goal late in the fourth quarter with the Zips down by a touchdown, the offense elected to throw to Arthur three times with no success. The series resulted in a turnover on downs.

They were blitzing so you would not have penetrated the line, Brookhart said. In those situations, we go with our go-to guy.

Arthur had a game in which he had career highs in receptions with 15 and receiving yards with 223. His longest reception was 512 yards and resulted in one of his three touchdown on the day.

With his performance in the game, Arthur steamrolled toward three UA records. He moved to second place on UA’s receptions list with 147, just two behind Matt Cherry to tie the all-time record. He also moved from sixth to third UA’s receiving yards list with 2,124. Arthur is also tied for fourth on UA’s touchdown list with 14.

Coach gave me an opportunity and we had a game plan to attack the defense, Arthur said. That’s what we did and I thank God the ball came into my hands and we were able to make plays.

Arthur had a potential touchdown overturned by officials late in the fourth quarter.

I thought it was a touchdown. But, that’s the nature of the game and home field advantage, Arthur said. At this point it doesn’t matter, I’m just glad we got the victory.

The Broncos made adjustments to stop Arthur but were still unable to contain him Saturday.

They mixed it up and we tried to take advantage of situations with Jabari. Brookhart said.

Arthur now stands to break multiple Akron receiving records as he continues to be the Zips’ go-to guy.
