The Democratic presidential primary is a very close race.

After Super Tuesday, Hillary Clinton only leads Barack Obama by 92 delegates according to CNN.com.

With 209 Democratic delegates up for grab on Saturday, the race can turn around at any point.

McCain on the other hand has a substantial lead over his competitors. He leads Mitt Romney by 350 delegates.

Regardless of who you are going to vote for, Super Tuesday made one thing clear: Ohio will be a major player.

So what does that mean for the University of Akron campus?

Our votes will matter, substantially.

Ohio has 161 Democratic delegates to offer and 88 delegates for Republicans.

If history has proven anything, it is that Ohio can be a huge turning point or can lock up a win for a candidate.

The UA campus has over 20,000 students plus faculty that can make a big difference in this election.

We are not naive enough to think that every one of our fellow students and faculty will make it to the polls.

However, if you have been under the impression that your vote does not matter, the numbers don’t lie.

The good thing about having our primary March 4 instead of early on is that the field is going to continue to narrow, so you won’t have to vote for a candidate that might be out of the running the next day.

It’s your choice to vote or not, but as a campus community, we can make a difference in the primaries, regardless of which way we vote.
