The Whigs impress with second release

“Pop in The Whigs’ new album Mission Control and you’ll get the sudden urge to dance like a hippie and give every person you see the peace sign. It’s no surprise that this album was recorded in the same L.A. studio as The Doors, Janis Joplin and The Beach Boys.”

Pop in The Whigs’ new album Mission Control and you’ll get the sudden urge to dance like a hippie and give every person you see the peace sign.

It’s no surprise that this album was recorded in the same L.A. studio as The Doors, Janis Joplin and The Beach Boys.

This original, pop-garage-punk has catchy lyrics, an upbeat tune, and a clear passion for music. Short and sweet is the best way to describe this underground band’s sophomore album, but don’t underestimate them – they’re destined for greatness.

Mission Control shows how The Whigs have matured from their eBay equipment bought days.

ATO, Dave Matthews’ record label, helped them launch their first album Give ‘Em All A Fat Lip in 2006, and then in 2008 Mission Control.

If R.E.M. and My Morning Jacket got together and made music, this is what the result would be, the funky, indie-ish, soothing sound of The Whigs.

The album is available in both vinyl and CD format, so when you start listening and feel the urge to throw it on a record player, you can. Perfect for the modern day hippie.

Trying to find a way to tell your parents that winter break was enough for you? Have them download I Don’t Want To Go Home, they’ll get the idea.

Put on your dancing shoes when listening to Hot Bed, because it’s the perfect song for any free-spirited soul looking for their 60’s fix.

But when looking for an easy listening song, the soft, light beat of Sleep Sunshine will literally make you want to drift off into a sweet slumber.

Their album titled song Mission Control makes you envision the ever so famous hip rotations of Elvis Presley. A variety of sounds and moods are set throughout the whole album, but anyone who has a desire to rock and roll should like almost everything The Whigs have to offer.

So take this album, and go on a road trip with your best friend.

Roll down the windows, let loose, and belt out the lyrics to these songs as you let the noise take you to a destination anywhere.
