The Zips baseball team lost three straight games to the Central Michigan Chippewas this weekend and are now on a seven-game losing streak.

The Zips traveled up to Mount Pleasant, Mich. to play at Theunissen Stadium. The series started on Friday as the Zips lost to the Chippewas 10-6.

Taking an early 5-1, they kept the lead until the sixth inning.

Overall all weekend we did a good job of getting runs in, Zips head baseball coach Pat Bangtson said.

The Chippewas scored four runs in the sixth inning and then two runs in both the seventh and eighth inning to take home the win.

They got clutch hits and took advantage of a couple of mistakes on walks and defensive errors, Bangtson said.

Jess Hernandez was credited with the win for the Chippewas as he pitched 6.1 innings with seven strikeouts, 11 hits and six runs in 30 at bats. Trent Howard pitched the final 2.2 innings for the Chippewas and had four strikeouts at nine at bats.

Alex Loftin took the loss for the Zips as he pitched 5.1 innings with four strike outs, 11 hits, and six runs in 33 at bats. Scott Foster pitched the next 2.1 innings for the Zips and Kevin Kumazec pitched the final out.

Game two of the series showed more excitement by going into extra innings. When all was said and done the Chippewas took home the victory once again by a score of 8-7.

Andrew Brown took the loss for the Zips as he pitched seven innings with four strike outs, 11 hits and four runs in 31 at bats.

Second baseman Nick Solitario and center fielder Drew Turocy led the team in RBI with two a piece.

They are both hard working young men and their hard work came up big in the game for us, Bangtson said.

Rick Dodridge was credited with the win for the Chippewas as he pitched 6.1 innings with two strikeouts, 10 hits, six runs, in 26 at bats.

In game three of the series the Zips looked like they were going to bring home the win but in the bottom of the ninth the Chippewas fought back and scored five runs to defeat the Zips 9-8.

They had timely hitting, found some holes and had the big hit to finish the game, Bangtson said.

Pitcher Benjamin Danziger took the loss for the Zips as he pitched eight innings with four strikeouts, 15 hits, nine runs, in 36 at bats.

Ben has been our most constituent starter over the last two years, Bangtson said. Sunday’s game was no different as he gave us an opportunity to win the ball game.

Turocy led the Zips with two RBI while Solitario, Brandon White and Jake Plata had three hits apiece.

Jake Sabol was credited with the win for the Chippewas as he pitched 5.2 innings with two strikeouts, 12 hits, seven runs, in 30 at bats.

The Chippewas are now 18-11 overall and 8-1 in the MAC and are currently in second place in the Western Division.

With the three losses this weekend, the Zips are now currently 14-16 overall and 2-7 in the MAC and are currently in last place in the MAC Eastern Division.

The Zips will hit the road April 14 to take on the Youngstown State University Penguins. They will return home to Lee Jackson field April 16 for a weekend series against the Eastern Michigan Eagles.
