The Akron Aeros got their first cameo appearance from the Cleveland Indians Wednesday. That cameo was made by injured closer Joe Borowski.

Borowski, who was placed on the disabled list April 15 with a tricep injury, rehabbed during the game against the Altoona Curve.

However, as indicated by his pitching Wednesday night, this veteran has done nothing but improve.

Each day is going better and better, the 6-foot-2 right-handed pitcher said. Today felt real good coming out. I haven’t taken any steps back since we started this process.

While others are focusing on his velocity, he said he is looking for his location, something he did not seem to struggle with during this particular game.

Each time out as you throw more and more, those muscles kind of become memory again, he said.

This injury has caused him to take 15 days complete rest before he could start working again.

Borowski took the time to compliment his teammates on their hard work without him.

As a teammate and as a player you want everyone doing well all the time, Borowski said. I get taken out of the mix and I feel it’s my fault because I’m throwing everyone else around.

While Borowski’s appearance with the Double A team may have been the draw for many fans, starting pitcher David Huff stole the show.

Huff, who came into the game with a 2.14 ERA, shared what he was doing to keep up the good work.

I’m just trying to stay healthy and stick to my routine, he said. I’m just trying to keep our ball team in there every time I go out there.

The left-hander went exactly seven innings before making way for Borowski to step in for the eighth, an inning which Huff could have easily come back for.

Huff found his winning combination in his fastball and change-up. Once he found himself ahead of his hitters, he went at them with his slider, down and away.

With this win, the Aeros have their first three-game winning streak of the season going.

The Aeros will close the series Thursday morning with a game at 10:35 a.m. before taking on the Erie Sea Wolves Friday.
