Thunder to much for the Aeros

“Friday night downtown Akron saw the minor league version of the Yankee vs. Indians. The Aeros took on Yankees affiliate the Trenton Thunder to a crowd of 5196 at Canal Park. Starting pitcher Ryan Edell had a rough start giving up one run in the first inning of the game.”
The Aeros took on Yankees affiliate the Trenton Thunder to a crowd of 5196 at Canal Park.

Starting pitcher Ryan Edell had a rough start giving up one run in the first inning of the game. As he said he just couldn’t get into the groove after his first inning.

It was definitely an off night. Edell said. I wasn’t hitting my spots as well as I usually do.

Edell pitched five innings before being relieved by Erik Stiller, who was called up to the Aeros Thursday.

The stadium is beautiful and the crowd was good. Stiller said in reference to his first appearance as an Aero. I just had to get in there and get the first one under my belt.

Stiller however, was not enough to hold off the Thunder in the opening game of this series.

While Josh Rodriguez hit the only double of the night it did very little to help the offensive efforts made by the team.

We played a tough game, Rodriguez said. Our offense wasn’t there and we struggled with our at bats. Some guys hit the ball hard but it was just one of those days where you just couldn’t catch a break.

While this was a tough loss for many, manager Mike Sarbaugh shared his thoughts about the game his team had just played.

I thought Trenton took advantage of the opportunities they had with runners in scoring position, Sarbaugh said. When you play 142 games like we do, you’re going to have nights like this.

The Aeros will face the Trenton Thunder again on Staturday at 7:05 p.m. at Canal Park Stadium.
