Associated Student Government has been hosting safety walks on the University of Akron campus in hopes of making the campus safe.

According to Kristen Bowman, president of ASG, the walks offer students and faculty the chance to walk around the campus with administration and address areas that need improvement.

The walks started in 2006 but have become more important through the years, something that Bowman said she thought was due to the safety push that has been happening on campuses across the United States.

The next walk will take place on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 7:15 p.m. Even though the weather may not be ideal Bowman still encourages students to come out.

This is what students go through everyday, Bowman said referring to the cold and the snow.

The program was started by a former ASG member and has since been passed on to the facilities and services committee within ASG. Members of the administration, such as Dr. Charles J. Fey, vice president for student affairs and other members of the University of Akron Police Department also walk with students.

Student’s who want to attend the walk are told to meet at Starbucks in the Student Union on Thursday around 7 p.m.
