The studying is done, finals are over, now where to take those pesky books? There are many options for students looking to empty their backpacks for a little extra cash.

Selling books to a bookstore is quick and simple. All you need is your university ID to sell books on and off-campus.

The bookstore in the Student Union is a convenient place to sell your books back. If the book is in good condition, being used next semester and the bookstore is not over stocked than they will offer 50 percent of the selling price. If you have a work book or study guide with no writing or damage the book store can buy it back as well.

If a book does not meet those criteria prices are based on national demand, but if the book is not in national demand or is an old edition than the store can not buy back the book.

Off-campus book stores are also good places for getting money for your books. The College Store on Exchange Street., on average, can offer 40 percent of the selling price, but the price can vary. All books brought in cannot have water damage or have missing or extremely damaged covers. Joanne DelSanto, the store manager, has advice for customers wondering about the condition of their books.

If it’s not something you’d want to buy, don’t sell it back, she said.

She explained the advantages of coming to an off-campus store. She said the off-campus stores can give you a better price because they are not run by a university, they set their own prices. Also off-campus stores have a bigger buying capacity than the on-campus stores. We buy for multiple schools, over 300, we can buy more books, she said of the other College Stores in Michigan, Nebraska, New York, Pennsylvania and several other states.

The internet is an option that allows you to avoid the inevitable long lines you would face at the bookstores. It also allows for price comparisons, to see who will give the best price for books.

Sites like ecampus.com, cash4books.net and webuytextbooks.com offer an easy process for selling books.

Book rental sites are also interested in buying books from students. Collegebookrenter.com states on it’s Web site that they buy more books than bookstores and other online sites.

Their conditions for buying are similar to bookstores. They will not accept books with water damage, stains, missing or loose pages or excessive writing and highlighting. In addition to the price they pay for the book they will also pay for the shipping. The site uses PayPal.

Sites like Amazon.com and eBay are another option. Once you are a member, which is free, selling books is simple. The process can be long because there is no guarantee someone will buy your books, but it is an opportunity for selling books not being taken by the bookstores.

Bookstores and Web sites that buy back textbooks offer many options to students looking to get the most money for books they no longer need.
