On Dec. 2, the Ohio Senate removed Jack Morrison Jr. from the university’s board of trustees with a 30-3 vote. A week later, on December 9, he was also removed from his position on the Summit County Board of Elections.

Gov. Ted Strickland turned to the Senate after Morrison refused to resign from his position on the university’s board. Calls for his resignation from both positions came after his July 29 convictions on two misdemeanor ethics violations. Morrison failed to report income from his son while serving on the board of trustees.

Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner removed Morrison from the board of elections. Brunner wrote Morrison a letter in October asking for his resignation. Morrison refused and, in November, represented himself in a hearing where he argued that he could not be removed from his position without a Summit County vote. The hearing examiner ruled that there was good and sufficient cause to remove Morrison from the board, and that Brunner had the authority to do so. Brunner’s Dec. 2 letter to him stated that his removal was effective immediately.
