“As spring break hastily approaches and we all begin to finalize our plans, there are two important things to remember: to remain safe and to remain dedicated to the schoolwork that we must complete before we disembark on our much-needed vacations.
Every year, it seems that by this time we all begin to suffer from Spring-breakitis. Our classes don’t seem to help much because they tend to overload us with projects, homework and tests. Though it’s much easier to put off today what we can do tomorrow, we should push ourselves to finish everything we can in an effective manner. Sloppy work is never good and reflects poorly on our work habits. Time management is key. Spring Break itself is a little less than a week away, and all we need to do is push through this week!
We must keep in mind, however, the most important thing about Spring Break: safety. As young adults, we often fool ourselves into a false sense of security, thinking that nothing can touch us, harm us or take advantage of us. It would be a wonderful world if that were the case. However, the real world is quite the opposite. Young people are often prime targets for the negativity that exists in this world. We all need to take the necessary precautions to ensure that we don’t allow ourselves to become another Natalee Halloway
No matter how experienced we think we are, there is someone more experienced in taking advantage of us, which is why we must be extremely careful and methodical in our Spring Break plans. Travel in groups and leave contact information with friends and family who will not be joining you. It is important not to limit our contact information to cell phone numbers, but also hotels and other things relevant to where we are staying.
Spring Break is an important time to unwind from the stress of school; however, remember not to unwind too much. We’re all in college and the decisions we make now, or the mistakes we may make, can follow us for the rest of our lives. It is important to enjoy yourself. Just make sure to keep it real.
College is one of the best times in your life, so be doubly sure to make the best of it! Just ensure that you are safe and remember that you’re always representing yourself to the world, so be a good ambassador.
