Softball preview

The University of Akron softball team kicked off their season Feb. 10 by participating in the Southeast Louisiana Lion Classic and the College of Charleston Cougar Classic.

In the Southeast Louisiana Lion Classic the Zips posted a 2-3 record, beating Southeastern Louisiana and Southern University 8-3 and 13-3, respectively, and dropping games against Northern Colorado, Troy and Nicholls State.

In the College of Charleston Cougar Classic the team had a 1-3 record, making their season record 3-6.  The Zips beat Morehead State 6-4 while dropping games to the College of Charleston, Marshall and Charleston Southern. Their game against Kennesaw State was canceled.

The Lady Zips return to play March 3 against Marist in the George Mason Classic.  Following a pair of doubleheaders, they will participate in the Rebel Spring Games March 9-12.  The team will then travel to Sacramento to participate in the Sacramento State Invitational March 17 and 18.

After a doubleheader against the University of Dayton, UA opens up MAC play against Toledo on March 30.  The MAC tournament is scheduled for May 9.
