Akron’s annual Greek festival took place over the weekend, attracting the usual large crowds.

The festival, raises money for its host, Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Akron.

Visitors had the opportunity to listen to live music by The Fabulous Grecian Keys and Dimitri, watch traditional dances and work their way through a menu of Greek food which included gyros, baklava and dolmas. The tents outside, where the offerings consisted of finger-friendly foods, were packed at dinner time as the lines for indoor dining stretched down the hall.

There was also a chance for festival goers to do some shopping, with vintage and Greek-inspired jewelry as well as clothing and accessories filling two rooms upstairs, and a rummage sale including furniture, sporting equipment and home wares in the basement.

A silent auction was also conducted, and while the lower-priced baskets attracted more offers, the item getting the most attention was a puppy. Bidding for the dog started at around $400.

While the festival only happens once a year, the Church also offers weekly gyro luncheons every Thursday, where gyros, soup, salad and baklava are available for purchase.
