Caleb Porter goes pro

University of Akron men’s soccer coach Caleb Porter has been confirmed as the new head coach for the Major League Soccer Team the Portland Timbers at 10:45 a.m. PST.

Timbers Owner and President Merritt Paulson said on portlandtimbers.com,
“I believe that Caleb Porter is the best young soccer coaching mind in the country.”

Porter has served as the sixth head coach in UA soccer with 106 wins and 17 losses and 14 ties.

“Coach Porter is admired as a leader, a motivator, and a champion on our campus and around our nation,” University of Akron President Luis M. Proenza said on gozips.com. “He sets an example for us all- to pursue our objectives with passion and pride and to live like champions.”

Porter will finish the current season as head coach with the Akron Zips men’s soccer team and then transition into his new role as head coach for the Portland Timbers in 2013.
