Artisan Coffee Shop: Hidden Gem of Akron 10-27-16
October 26, 2016
Coffee is an essential part of the college life for many students, so it only seems appropriate to share with you a coffee shop with a cozy atmosphere. I want to expand your coffee horizons with a coffee shop other than your usual Starbucks or Einstein Bros.
Artisan Coffee Shop opened a little over a year ago in early October. It roasts its coffee beans in-house. They make their own syrups with organic cane sugar.
They have classics like your usual cup of coffee, French presses, and cold brew. They have a menu of espresso drinks like Americanos and mochas. Their specialty drink menu that can be made hot, iced, or cold, and includes items like White Cozy Mocha, Almond Joy Mocha, and The Orangeman. I tried The Orangeman when I stopped in this week for the first time and I was stunned. It was a smooth, rich blend of orange, chocolate, and coffee.
In spirit of the fall season, they currently have a three special menu items: a salted caramel mocha, an apple pie latte, and a pumpkin spice latte. There is also a secret menu which has seven specialty drinks on it. I did not see the specialty menu displayed.
Besides their coffees, they also have pastries and lunch and dinner options. They have soups, sandwiches, and salads. They also have a shelf with novelty items like mugs, tumblers, shirts, and burlap coffee bags that once held beans. The mugs are handmade by local potter Bob Yost.
President of Artisan Coffee Shop Tim Bechtel said, “Emily, my wife, and I opened Artisan Coffee after a decade of a growing passion for coffee, food and hospitality. We desire to serve amazing drinks and food in a cozy and peaceful environment.”
Some of Bechtel’s favorites from the menu are the mayan mocha, the thai peanut wrap, and the caramel apple muffin.

I recently visited Artisan Coffee and I was blown away! The atmosphere is so warm and homey, you’d swear you were home for Christmas. The coffee is excellent and the food that I ordered was so good I thought I was at Grandma’s house. And the decor… very artfully done with many unique features. I especially liked the Actual Barn Door as well as the one wall that was made of irregular strips of various different kinds of wood. I understand the menu could change on a periodic basis, so that will have me back just to see what is new.
