On Oct. 18, University of Akron students will have a chance to meet with 126 potential employers in the Student Union Grand Ballroom.
“There is an opportunity for everyone at this event,” said Alex Toomey, assistant director of employer relations at UA. “It’s not just for certain majors and certain fields.”
The Career Fair offers interaction with public, private and nonprofit companies. Among the numerous companies that will be appearing at the fair are American Income Life, Diebold, Enterprise, Goodyear, Jo-Ann Stores, Panther Expedited Services, PolyOne Corporation, STERIS Corporation, Swagelok Company, Hoover/Dirt Devil, Verizon Wireless, and Wayne Dalton Garage Doors.
To prepare for this event, students should have their resumes ready, and be professionally dressed. The Career Center in Simmons will be available, as always, to help critique and polish resumes.
In addition, two “Tips and Hints” information sessions are being held on Oct. 15 and 16 in the Student Union to ensure successful outcomes for students.
According to Toomey, it is also very important that students log into Roolink and review the employers that will be present.
“(Students can) create a plan of who they want to approach and search by their major for what they need,” Toomey said.
The Career Fair offers opportunities for internships, part-time jobs and full-time jobs. It is open for all undergraduate and graduate students, and also alumni of the university. For many students, this has been a way to make that crucial first connection with an employer, and has been their “first step to ultimate career success,” according to Toomey.
